News Summary

Interview with Meigs

In an interview with TV SFOR, SFOR Commander General Montgomery Meigs stated that “the recent attack on a house inhabited by SFOR soldiers in Zvornik clearly represents attempted murder” adding that, after an investigation, appropriate measures will taken. The incident was probably performed by a small group of terrorists trying to jeopardize peace efforts in BiH, while NATO strikes continue in Yugoslavia. Meigs believes politicians and political parties in general understand that such actions, meaning violence, may be very dangerous and, in a local sense, could represent a threat to peace. He explained that a recent incident occurred near Rudo, when an SFOR patrol was illegally captured by the Yugoslav Army, represents an obvious encroachment on BiH sovereignty by Yugoslavia. He said this was a serious violation of the Dayton Agreement by Yugoslavia and announced that action will be taken to prevent such events.
