News Summary

Bicakcic announces possible restructuring of BiH Federation Government

In an interview with ONASA on Sunday, BiH Federation Prime Minister Edhem Bicakcic announced that he would submit his report on the work of the Government soon and would probably ask for some changes in its structure. Bicakcic explained details of the restructuring of the BiH Federation budget, by which funds for the BiH Federation Army and war invalids would be reduced. Both the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister office favor this as it will increase budget revenues and the size of armed force has to be reduced anyway. Bicakcic also spoke about the recent New York Times article on corruption in BiH, which caused great harm to the BiH Federation Government, and said that he will not raise charges on his own behalf, but might appear in a court in the event the Government does press charges.

BiH Peace Corps initiates project to reconstruct houses in Central Bosnia Canton

The BiH Peace Corps initiated a program of reconciliation and refugee return to Central Bosnia Canton two months ago. The activities of the Corps mostly relate to motivating potential donors and raising funds for the reconstruction of housing. A delegation of the BiH Peace Corps, along with a US Peace Corps delegation, visited villages in Central Bosnia Canton, where 80 houses belonging to refugees from all three BiH ethnic communities were reconstructed thanks to financial assistance from the Dutch Government.
