BHT1 – US Ambassador to BIH David McElhaney welcomed Ljiljana’s statement and said “it is more relevant if Radovan Karadzic will listen to her. Regardless to the outcome, we will get to him”. According to Ljiljana Smajlovic, a journalist from Belgrade , the silence of some Serbian political representatives is regarded as disapproval of Ljljana’s statement.

TV Hayat – Ambassador McElhaney stressed that he paid attention to messages and statements issued by RS and SCG authorities, and he fully agrees with the part that Karadzic’s surrender would present relief for many people in this part of the world. “I would just like to remind authorities in RS and Belgrade that we count on their cooperation”- said McElhaney.

TV Hayat, TV Pink, FTV, BHT1, RTRS, Oslobodjenje pg 3 ‘Surrender of Karadzic would change tempo of work of ICTY’ by Fena, Dnevni Avaz pg 2 ‘Prospere: we are witnesses to a very positive development of events’ by Fena U.S. Ambassador for War Crimes Issues Pierre Richard Prosper stated that surrender of Radovan Karadzic would take Ratko Mladic along, stressing that Mladic wouldn’t be waited long, after Karadzic’s arrival to Den Hague- he would be arrested or he would surrender. Prosper considers that this surrender would dramatically change flow and tempo of work in ICTY, stressing that Karadzic and Slobodan Milosevic would be confronted, which again would have great importance from the stand of their trials.

FTV – Prosper added that U.S. State Department expect the cooperation of RS and SCG governments.

EUFOR COM Leakey: Serb leaders preparing voters for surrender of Karadzic and Mladic

 

TV Pink, RTRS – EUFOR Commander, General David Leakey stated that in certain way, political leaders of Bosnian Serbs are preparing voters for surrender of Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic.

FTV Report by Adisa Ruzdic – EUFOR Commander David Leakey stated for FTV that “everybody is responsible for missing opportunities to arrest Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic; International Community, BIH Authorities even organised crime that is protecting the network that support these two indictees”. Leakey stressed that the mere fact that Karadzic and Mladic are not arrested because of the organised crime in BIH emphasises the need for police reform. In his interview for FTV, Leakey mentioned the problems with gas smuggling in BIH. He stressed that EUFOR will support local police forces in securing the stability and safety of the country.

BiH Foreign Affair Minister Ivanic: Karadzic’s surrender would reduce pressure on RS

Patriarch Pavle: stop violence over Karadzic family

 

RTRS – BIH Foreign Affairs Minister Mladen Ivanic feels that Karadzic’s surrender would reduce the pressure on RS and adds that the surrender would open new possibilities in BIH and the region. DNS Vice President Jovan Hadzi Mitrovic on the other hand feels that it is not good that the pressure on Karadzic’s family is made. Patriarch Pavle stated that it is not good that entire family has to suffer because of one family member. He also appealed to everyone to stop the violence over Karadzic’s family members.

Belgrade media speculate: Ljiljana reached an agreement with Prosper

Boskov – carries the above mentioned statement of Patriarch Pavle, and also reads Belgrade media are speculating the reason for Ljiljana Zelen-Karadzic’s appeal was the fact her son Aleksandar was exposed to a tremendous psychical torture, which had left consequences. Some Belgrade media also claim Ljiljana had reached an agreement with US Ambassador for War Crimes Issues Pierre Richard Prospere by which he would surrender in seven days, but first it should be agreed to whom he should surrender in order to avoid SiCG or RS to be accused for hiding the Hague fugitive.

TV Hayat – Editor commented that almost all reactions to statement of Ljiljana Zelen Karadzic contain approval, estimates what lead to it and what could it bring, while some of statements claim that Radovan Karadzic has already been arrested and that statement of his wife is just a mean for calming of possible reactions; but no one tried to explain what lead to this video statement.

FTV summarises reactions on appeal to Karadzic

 

FTV – Presenter commented that almost all reactions to statement of Ljiljana Zelen Karadzic contain approval, estimations on possible outcomes. Some of them even expressed doubts regarding Ljiljana’s sincerity. However, it appears that no one is concerned whether he will surrender. One more time, nothing has happened and rare are those who are mentioning actions to arrest him.

Mortal remains of 13 Bosniaks were buried in Bijeljina

 

 

 

 

 

 

FTV Report by Salih Brkic – The mortal remains of 13 members of families Sarajlic, Seljmenovic and Denjagic were buried in Bijeljina on Saturday. They were killed in 1992. Round table “Justice for reconciliation” was held before the burial. FTV features the story of Asmir Sarajlic whose entire family was killed. Attorney Dusko Tomic said on the occasion that many who knew a lot abut the crime were not present at the funeral. He also stated that members of unit “Pahuljice” (Snowflakes) committed the crime. The entire material was sent to BIH Prosecution. FTV reporter stated that Bijeljina Municipality did not accept to proclaim 30th July as mourning day and that the attendants at the funeral were welcomed by the loud music from the local coffee-bar. Instead, the mourning days were proclaimed 15th May when Serbs were killed in Tuzla or recently when a local Head of Municipality passed away, concluded the author.

Attorney Dusko Tomic brought names of “Pahuljica” unit members who knew everything about the crime

 

RTRS – With regard to burial of mortal remains of 13 persons in Bijeljina, attorney Dusko Tomic read the letter written by a member of RS MoI. The letter contains the names of individuals who know everything about the crime. Tomic read about a dozen names among which are former RS Minister of Interior Mico Stanisic and his deputy at the time Tomislav Kovac as well as current advisor to BIH Presidency member Borislav Paravac, Drago Vukovic. He also stated that members of unit Snowflakes committed the crime. Jusuf Prbic Chair of Bosniak culture community Preporod asked BIH Presidency to dismiss Vukovic and to process him as well. Vukovic stated for RTRS that Prbic knows that he gave statements to RS MoI and other institutions on the matter. He also stated that the manipulations regarding the crime should be stopped. Kovac also stated for RTRS that the crime is being manipulated with. He also stated that the case should be closed once and for all. Bijeljina Prosecution stated that several persons were questioned regarding the case and added that the entire material will be sent to state Prosecution.

Mortal remains of 51 Bosniaks buried in Prozor

BHT1, FTV – Mortal remains of 51 Bosniaks were buried in Prozor on 12th anniversary of the killings. BHT featured story of Zulka Purgic who lost her family in the killings.

Mortal remains of 16 persons buried in Kotorsko

Vlasenica has to pay 310,000 KM of war reparation to Bosniaks

BHT1, FTV – The Municipality Vlasenica has compensated 140 000 KM to Bosniak families for war damage of their households. The total sum that Vlasenica had to pay to Bosniak families for war damage was 310 000 KM.

More than 20 wrong identifications of mortal remains were confirmed

 

Oslobodjenje pgs 4-5, announced on cover ’22 mistakes were confirmed’ by Edina Kamenica – The Chief of F BiH Commission for Missing Persons Jasmin Odobasic had claimed for years a number of mistakes were made in the process of DNA identification of exhumed bodies, yet these claims were “hushed up”. Nevertheless, these claims were confirmed during a meeting at BiH State Prosecutor’s Office held on Wednesday. State Prosecutor Marinko Jurcevic, ICMP representatives, several prosecutors and Chairmen of RS and F BiH Commissions for Missing Persons attended this meeting, during which cases of approximately 20 wrong identifications at Una – Sana Canton were discussed. Considering the fact this number is not final, approximately 200 bodies in this region would be re-exhumed and re-examined.

Vain action of apprehending Gotovina near Livno

 

Oslobodjenje pg 2 ‘EUPM believed to a story of a sick person’ by H. Gromlic – EUPM search for General Ante Gotovina in Misi village near Livno was conducted in vain. As Livno Canton MoI Spokesperson Ivica Vrdoljak has explained, a returnee from Australia had called EUPM and told them he had seen Gotovina in the house of his relative. According to Vrdoljak, the returnee was known to be a mentally ill person.

SDP Tuzla criticises SDA, SDS and HDZ over police, defence reforms

 

 

 

Oslobodjenje pg 10, announced on cover ‘Ashdown’s reformists are throwing dust in citizens’ eyes’ by V. Jahic – With regard to the latest proposals to re-locate the future police centre from Tuzla to either Bijeljina or Brcko, SDP Tuzla held a press conference at which they have stated the ruling parties are trying to reduce Tuzla down to a provincial area. They have stated SDA had showed it had given up from the concept of whole BiH and joined a coalition with SDS and HDZ that often try to break BiH apart. SDP Tuzla Chairman Fehrat Hrustic has also stated: ‘Throwing dust to citizens’ eyes, everything Ashdown’s reformists are doing, is a farce. They can reach no agreement on functioning of the police, army and other segments of the authority that are a foundation of every state’.

Hadzipasic: Minister Halilovic did not run away from meeting in Banja Luka as Terzic claimed

 

Dnevni Avaz pg 2 ‘Hadzipasic: It is not true Halilovic had ran away from meeting in Banja Luka’ by M. Kukan – F BiH PM Ahmet Hadzipasic and Minister of Interior Mevludin Halilovic denied the statement of CoM Chairman Adnan Terzic who claims Minister Halilovic had ran away from the meeting on police reform talks in Banja Luka on Thursday. PM Hadzipasic says Halilovic did not run away, he just did not have the authorisation to participate to the meeting on behalf of the Government. PM Hazipasic also thinks it would not be good if the entities’ Government discussed the police reform in frame of the entities’ institutions, because this might lead to police limited within entities’ boundaries, which would not be a good solution.

Oslobodjenje op-ed expresses doubt politicians would be able to reach agreement on police reform

Oslobodjenje pg 9 ‘Great politicians’ by Senka Kurtovic – The author sarcastically refers to the conclusion of Banja Luka meeting on police reform talks, which foresees no presence of the international representatives except in case they are called for technical assistance, and she says: ‘this is a great step for local politicians, but a small step for the men kind’. She also expressed her doubt the politicians would be able to reach an agreement on police reform.

Mesic replies to Tadic: Srebrenica cannot be compared with Oluja

 

 

TV Hayat, Oslobodjenje pg 2, announced on cover ‘It is not possible to compare Srebrenica with Oluja’ by Fena – Replying to the statement of Serbian President Boris Tadic, who said crimes against Serbs committed during “Oluja” action must be condemned as he did condemn Srebrenica crimes, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has once again repeated that Srebrenica is the most horrifying crime that ever happened here, where eight thousands people were viciously murdered just because they aren’t Serbs. Mesic stressed that Srebrenica can’t be compared with individual excesses during “Oluja”, adding that processing of war criminals in Croatia is ongoing.

Mostar Mufti Smajkic criticised Catholich Church for support to HDZ’s policy

 

Dnevni List cover pg splash ‘Smajkic accuses Catholic Church’ and pg 6 ‘Mufti Smajkic accuses Catholic Church again’ by V. Soldo – 4th meeting of Bosniak Youth was held in Mostar Saturday. While addressing the participants, Hadzi seaid effendi Smajkic, Mostar Mufti, referred to history of Mostar and its cultural heritage, but also blamed HVO, Croatian Army and international community by saying they were responsible that Bosniaks were forced out from Mostar. Apart from this, he also criticised Catholic Church by saying it supports rigid option of HDZ with regard to all issues and it often decides to make radical moves to achieve Croats’ interests in this area.

Kadric warns: changes to the RS Law on Territorial Organisation will abolish both prefix “Serb” and pre-war prefix “Bosnian” from names of towns in RS

Dnevni Avaz cover pg splash ‘ “Bosnian” towns are again being forced out from RS’ and pg 5 ‘Prefix “Bosnian” is again trying to be forced out from RS’ by M. K. – Chairman of RS Council of Peoples Remzija Kadric warns on the consequences of changes to the Law on RS Territorial Organisation, adopted three days ago during RS NA session, and he announces he would alert OHR with regard to this issue. Namely, RS was obliged to change names of towns in RS with Serb prefix, as in accordance with BiH Constitutional Court decision. RS NA adopted the changes to the Law and listed municipalities whose names would be changed, but none of these that have had prefix “Bosnian” in its name before the war was given its pre-war name. For instance, the name of Serb Brod (pre-war name – Bosnian Brod) will now, as in accordance with the changes to the Law, be renamed to “Brod”. Kadric believes RS authorities are in this way trying to destroy everything Bosnian and implement Karadzic’s war time projects.

Inset ‘Searches for Saudi financiers’ reports American and BiH investigators have checked activities of several banks, firms and institutions in BiH that were suspected of having been linked with Jasin Al-Kadi, a close associate of Al-Q’Aida. The inset lists some check-up actions that have taken place in BiH in past.

Not yet known whether Cosic and Galic would testify in “Hercegovacka bank” case

 

Oslobodjenje pg 7, announced on cover ‘Jelavic is being saved by witnesses from Croatia’ by Alma Nezirevic – carries an announcement that it would be known on Monday whether Croatian Parliament delegate Kresimir Cosic and Miljenko Galic would respond to subpoena to testify in “Hercegovacka bank” case. The article reads Cosic, considering the fact he had been at various high-ranking positions at Croatian authorities, might shed some light on this case. Nevertheless, the witnesses cannot be obliged to testify if they do not want to and, in Cosic’s case, Croatian Government and Parliament too have to give consent in order for him to testify before the court of some other country.

NN: Humphreys one of rare int. reps who fulfills his goals without punishing local politicians
