The pre-election silence starts tomorrow in B&H. Two parties, SDP and SDA, had their last pre-election gatherings in Sarajevo, only a few meters apart from each other. Reported by Damir Kaletovic.

Sarajevo

The Federation government adopted a decision on prolongation of the deadline for purchase of flats in the Federation of B&H, because of citizens’ complaints. Only 10% of flats have been purchased so far. The Federation Prime Minister, Edhem Bicakcic, blames the municipalities for not informing citizens about the deadline. The Italian President, Carlo Ciampi, visited B&H today, and met the Bosnian Presidency members. B&H is very interested in further economic co-operation with Italy, said Alija Izetbegovic, the B&H President. Mr Ciampi also met the religious leaders in B&H. The B&H Presidency discussed EU directives for a feasibility study of B&H membership of the EU. By the end of the year, most of the prerequisites should be fulfilled. Only a precise plan would enable the creation of the study. The report was produced by Sanjin Beciragic.

The Council of Europe decided to suspend Russian membership in this organisation, unless they stop the atrocities in Cechenia.

The Special Representative of the Russian President for Human rights in Cechenia supported the suggestion of Mary Robinson regarding the formation of a special commission on violation of human rights in Cechenia.

Cechenian fighters attacked a Russian convoy last night, and killed about 100 Russians, said the spokesman of Cechenian fighters for independence.

The Union of B&H miners was formed in Sarajevo today. In this way, miners fulfilled the condition required for signing a collective agreement with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Mining and Energetic. Reported by Mirna Sadikovic.
