Mostar

The US Ambassador met the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of Mostar. The latest events at the University of Mostar and providing resources for the city budget were the main themes of the discussion. Ambassador Miller does not like pressures on the former Head of the University of Mostar, Marko Tadic. He is satisfied with USAID programme for small and medium enterprises. Reported by Alisa Dzebo.

Sarajevo

The French School for Judges organised a seminar on ethics of judges. Judges in B&H will be checked for the first time. The Federal Commission for judges received 205 complaints of citizens against judges. Reported by Adis Saranovic.

Teslic

The paramilitary unit “Mice” was active in the area of Teslic during the war. Dozens of their victims were buried in the Borja mountain near Teslic. The former RS Minister of Internal Affairs, Milovan Stankovic and the former RS Defence Minister, Milan Ninkovic formed the unit. According to unofficial information, Milan Ninkovic gathered “Mice” again. Reported by Amarildo Gutic.

Trials to the indicted war criminals Dario Kordic and Mario Cerkez continued before the Hague Tribunal.

World

The Civil Administrator in Kosovo, Bernard Kouchner said that local Serbs would be allowed to organise voting at the elections on 24th September.

Presidential candidates at the forthcoming elections in Serbia will be Vojislav Kostunica, Slobodan Milosevic, Tomislav Nikolic and Vojislav Mihajlovic. According to the public polls, 52% of citizens would vote for Kostunica.

At least 2 people died in an explosion in a market in Russia, about 150km from Moscow.

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin and the Japanese Prime Minister continued their discussions on the future of the Curril Islands in Tokyo. No progress was made.

More than 300 people died in an offensive of the Shri Lanca Army against the Tamil Tigers.

The wave of violence is spreading in Columbia, after Clinton’s visit to the country.

Tuzla

Employees of the “Tuzla” hotel organised a protest today. They criticised the former management, because the hotel is under a mortgage. Employees demand de-blockage of the company account. Reported by Alma Hadziefendic.

Tuzla

There are 24 schools in the Tuzla region. Only 4 of them started working today. Others decided to organise a strike, demanding monthly salaries and food coupons. Sabina Dizdarevic produced the report.

Sarajevo

The 8th Elementary School was opened in Butmir, near Sarajevo. The European Development Commission financed reconstruction of the school.

Rastani

About 100 Bosniac and Serb families returned to Rastani. The International Community reconstructed an elementary school there. However, there are problems in providing teachers for the school, Sinisa Jokic reported.

Banja Luka/Mostar

A new school year started in most parts of the country. Some of the books were changed. The OHR approved use of the books in schools.

Bileca

7 Bosniac families returned to the area of Bileca. Although the basic life conditions have not been provided yet, they firmly decided to stay in their village.

Sarajevo

Several fires were placed in houses of citizens of non-Bosniac nationality in Buca Potok. A special police unit has been formed for protection of these citizens. Mirna Sadikovic produced the report.

Sarajevo

New codes for cell phones will be used in B&H from today. Only users of “Eronet” will use the old codes till the end of the month. Then they will also be able to switch to the new system, Slobodan Maksimovic reported.
