Sarajevo

According to the article 143 of the Law on Work, 53 993 workers who have been registered on the “waiting lists” will lose their jobs on 5th May. They should receive severance pay. The World Bank prepared a special credit fund, which should help in establishment of a special social insurance system. But this will be done after the Law on Work reform. Mostar

About 150 workers are still waiting to go back to their jobs in the aluminium enterprise “Soko” in Mostar. East part of Mostar needs financial aid in order to form new companies and open new jobs. But the main prerequisite for this is unification of east and west Mostar. Reported by Alisa Dzebo from Mostar.

Zenica

“We should have only one company for steel production”, said Mithqual Sartawi, the “BH Steel” Director in Zenica. Large amounts of money are spent on service tax because of the existence of two such companies in Zenica: “Zeljezara Zenica” and the “BH Steel”. Koraljka Kurcenberger produced the report.

World

French KFOR soldiers escorted 50 Serbs to the Albanian part of Kosovska Mitrovica, in order to attend the Easter Mass there.

The UN Security Council delegation completed their 3-day-visit to Kosovo. They estimated that the situation there is still tensed, and that the Serb return would destabilise the region.

Russian planes continued their strikes against Cechenian rebels’ strongholds in south Cechenia.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin and the new Japanese Prime Minister said that they will try and reach a peace agreement before the end of the year.

Israel and Palestine started peace negotiations in Eliat.

Zimbabwe

About 4500 white farmers own 11 million hectares of agricultural land in Zimbabwe, while about 1 million blacks own 16 million hectares of the land. This situation started in colonial period. The Zimbabwe President announced the reform programme. His supporters already announced the military putsch if his party loses the forthcoming elections. The report was produced by Zeljka Lekic.

Sarajevo

The famous world cardio-surgeon visited the Clinical Centre in Sarajevo. The staff refused to assist him in the operation, because they hoped they would have 4 days of vacation for the 1st May. In this way, lives of babies at the Centre were endangered. OBN journalist, Sanjin Beciragic produced the report.

Bijeljina

There are about 10 000 Bosniac refugees who want to return to their houses in Janja. But firstly, the same number of Serbs who live in their houses should be accommodated. One of solutions is the construction of 364 facilities in Zagoni village near Bijeljina. The OHR in Bijeljina do not oppose this solution. The project should be implemented until the end of June. Tuzla

The Tuzla Serb City Council is not satisfied with the restitution of flats to their pre-war users. Local authorities claim that there is no reason for such an attitude. Tuzla is on the 7th place in the Federation of B&H in number of returned flats. The report was produced by Muhamed Berbic.
