There was an explosion in a Catholic Chapel in Zivinice, near Derventa. This was the second incident in the Derventa Municipality, where Croat refugees are returning. Reported by Svjetlana Celic-Ninkovic.

The Banja Luka City Assembly appointed Dragoljub Davidovic, the SNS member, as the new Mayor of Banja Luka. The new Chairman of the City Assembly is Slobodan Gavranovic, a member of DSP. “The period of a very complicated social situation is before us”, Mr. Gavranovic said.

Employees of health institutions in the RS organised a one-hour warning strike today. They announced a general strike at the end of the week, in case their requests are not fulfilled. About 1800 employees of the RS Post Office also started a warning strike, because of the illegal replacement of their director, Milutin Pejic and resignation of the company management. They announced a general strike on 3rd July. Reported by Darko Savic.

Health workers in Prijedor also organised a warning strike, demanding their monthly salaries, Milena Letic-Joves confirmed from Prijedor.

Pensioners are in a very difficult situation in the Middle Bosnia Canton. Most of them receive minimum pensions. They announced a blockage of municipal buildings, if their negotiations with authorities fail. Reported by Ana Dimac.

There were many reactions and polemics about tax controls in the daily newspaper “Dnevni Avaz”. Sanjin Beciragic made an interview with Ramiz Daferovic, the Director of the Federal Tax Administration. “Everybody was informed about controls, and the International Community received daily information about it”, Mr. Daferovic said. “No one ordered us to execute the tax control in “Dnevni Avaz”. We are doing our job in accordance with the Law”, Mr. Daferovic added.

After a meeting of EU leaders in Portugal, wishes of the EU were clear: strengthening of joint institutions in B&H, economic reform and refugee return. “When the time comes that you won’t need the international administration any longer, B&H will improve its relations with the EU”, said Peter Rashish from the European Institute in Washington. Potocari
The fifth anniversary of the Genocide of Bosniacs in Srebrenica will be marked on 11th July. On this occasion, the Co-ordination Board for Marking of the Anniversary addressed the OHR and UN, demanding from them to solve the issue of construction of the Memorial Centre and Graveyard in Potocari. Serb and Bosniac authority representatives couldn’t agree on this issue. The report was produced by Damir Kaletovic.

On the occasion of 50 years of the existence of the European Convention on human rights, a symposium on human rights and freedom was organised in Sarajevo. “Preventing the construction of a memorial centre in Potocari represents a violation of human rights”, said Cazim Sadikovic, the Director of the Institute for Constitutional Law. The US Children’s Aid Organisation has financed summer holidays for children without parents from Croatia for eight years. This year, 140 children from B&H travelled to the Badija island near Korcula. Children from Croatia will join them there. Mirna Sadikovic produced the report.
