The Federation Government decided to increase the prices of fuel. Prices will be increased after publishing the decision in the Official Gazette. Many private owners closed their petrol stations, waiting for prices of fuel to rise. OBN reporter Amarildo Gutic produced the report.

Sarajevo

250 miners from the coal mine in Bila have been on strike for five days, demanding their salaries and changes in their contract with “Elektroprivreda”. Union representatives came to Sarajevo two days ago, in order to meet the Federation officials. If at least half of their requests are not fulfilled tomorrow, miners say that they will block a road or an institution. Reported by Anes Alic.

Zenica

The miners of the coal mine “Zenica” continue their strike. Miners will go back to work after they receive written guarantees about fulfilment of their requests. The report was produced by Sanela Vilasevic.

Tuzla

About 400 employees of the factory “Soda” from Lukavac gathered this morning in front of the Tuzla Canton Office. They have been on strike since 8th June, demanding their salaries and appointment of a new management. “The production stoppage will only worsen the situation in the company”, said Bajazit Jasarevic, the Tuzla Canton Prime Minister. Employees of the factory “Soda” blocked the road between Doboj and Tuzla in the afternoon. Tuzla was blocked on the east side as well. 150 refugees blocked the road between Tuzla and Bijeljina, protesting because of the eviction of a refugee family.

“The B&H Foreign Ministry is not satisfied with people who lead the Stability Pact for south-east Europe, nor with the position of our country in its co-ordination bodies”, said Jadranko Prlic, the B&H Foreign Minister. “I hope that the situation will change through new initiatives of the French President, Jacques Chirac”, Prlic added. Washington

Testimonies of B&H and international officials about the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement ended last night in Washington. The US and their European partners will not give up a free and independent B&H, with two entities. This was one of the conclusions after the testimonies. The Head of the OSCE mission pointed out some encouraging signals in B&H, such as the election victory of the SDP. American participants emphasised the responsibility of B&H politicians for the success of the peace process. Reported by Kemal Kurspahic from Washington.

“A large number refugees and the displaced returned in B&H in this year, but not thanks to local authorities and the International Community. As far as I know, the EU hasn’t spent a single DM for the refugee return in B&H”, said James Lyon, the ICG Director. The US announced further aid of $10 million for the return of minorities, realising its importance. “A number of EU officials don’t think in this way”, Lyon said. French and German ambassadors visited the “Kozara” barracks, where the destruction of weapons was demonstrated. Ambassador Peters said that the RS fulfilled all their obligations from the agreement on sub-regional weapons, that was signed in Florence, four years ago. Reported by Milorad Milojevic.

The Deputy High Representative, Ralph Johnson, talked to the RS authorities about the functioning of the economy and market at State level. “In order to avoid economic crisis in B&H, the most important thing is to develop a private sector”, Johnson said. Biljana Arsic produced the report.

The IMF Director in B&H, Fernandes Hose Ansola met the RS Minister of Finance, Novak Kondic today. They discussed the implementation of economic reforms in the RS. The discussion will continue next week, Nedeljka Breberina confirmed.

World

Leaders of North and South Korea signed an agreement in order to decrease tensions on the island. The agreement includes investments by South Korea in the devastated economy of North Korea.

According to the annual report of “Amnesty International”, about 2/3 of world countries were accused of violations of human rights.

The Turkish citizen, who had spent almost 20 years in an Italian prison for the attempt of murder of the Pope John Paul II in 1981, arrived in Istambul.

The dispute within the SNS continues. Kostic and his part of the SNS feel that the decision of the Supreme Court on the legitimacy of Biljana Plavsic’s part of the party was unjust. The Deputy High Representative, Ralph Johnson said that the Court’s decision should be respected. Reported by Tatjana Lajsic.

The construction of houses for 30 Gypsy families in Crni Vrh, in Sarajevo should have been completed by now. “Echo” donated DM 1 million for the project. The construction hasn’t even started so far. Donors demand reimbursement. Reported by Damir Kaletovic.
