Syria

The Syrian President died today. He led the country for 30 years. OBN journalist Mladen Maric analysed the situation in Syria after Asad’s death.

Sarajevo

The 6th Assembly session of the Serb City Council took place today in Sarajevo. The main theme was refugee return. “The greatest problem is financial aid for reconstruction of returnees’ houses”, said Mirko Pejanovic, the Chairman of the Council. Reported by Damir Kaletovic.

Prijedor

About 40 Bosniac families returned to Cejreci, near Prijedor a month ago. No international or local organisation has offered them aid for reconstruction of their homes so far. The report was produced by Milena Letic-Joves.

Banja Luka

Tatjana Lajsic reported on chaotic political situation in the RS before the early Assembly session. The RS Prime Minister, Milorad Dodik feels that the media participate in political disputes and create tense situation in the RS.

Podgorica

Local elections in Podgorica and Herceg Novi will take place tomorrow. The expected crisis didn’t take place. Milosevic is probably waiting for the election results, and then he will decide on his further moves, Amarildo Gutic confirmed from Podgorica.

Turkey

The Turkish media reported that Mirza Hajric, Adviser to the Chairman of the B&H Presidency, Alija Izetbegovic, visited north part of Cyprus this week. He met the leader of Cyprus Turks, Rauf Denktas. Hajric said that authorities in Sarajevo should have a balanced approach to both parts of Cyprus. Reported by Jusko Bojadzic from Istambul.

Sarajevo

In an interview produced by Sanjin Beciragic, Mirza Hajric confirmed that he had visited North Cyprus. “We should strengthen our relations with North Cyprus as much as we can”, Hajric said. “B&H should have a balanced relationship with this part of the world”, he added.

World

Addressing the UN Security Council, the Head of the UN mission for Kosovo, Bernard Kouchner said that UN forces should remain in Kosovo for years.

In UNHCR and OSCE reports, violence against Serbs in Kosovo was condemned.

The 1st Anniversary after the end of NATO air strikes against FRY was celebrated in Yugoslavia today. The central celebration was organised in Aleksinac.

France and Germany agreed on a joint strategy in the European politics.

The Croatian Defence Minister said that Croatia would apply for membership of NATO in the autumn. Duska Jurisic produced a piece on current events in the world.

Sarajevo

Experts estimate that there are about 1 million unexploded mines in B&H. The International Community is not satisfied with the demining process. There are many rumours about misuse of money donated for demining. “If there are such allegations, they should be submitted to authorised bodies, in order to be investigated”, said Eddie Banks, Adviser at the Demining Commission. Zenica

Sanela Vilasevic produced a piece on the second meeting of mechanical engineers in Zenica. This was an opportunity to discuss possible co-operation between the Mechanical Faculty in Zenica and companies where these engineers are employed.

Reports on local volleyball and international football, as well as the NBA league were presented.
