Supervisor Robert W. Farrand, Deputy Supervisors Ian McLeod and Ambassador Gennady Shabannikov and OHR Legal Officer Ilias Chatzis met Wednesday evening with Cedo Volas, president of the RS Trade Union Federation, Ilia Kalajdzic, president of the Trade Unions of Brcko, Nedjo Damjanac, president of Brcko Municipal Organization Bodies, and Mr. Dragoslav Duvnjak, labor inspector.
The trade union leaders expressed their deep concerns over the new staffing plan of the Brcko municipal administration. A frank and constructive exchange of views ensued.
After a lengthy discussion the trade union leaders and the Supervisor and his colleagues agreed on the text of a memorandum of understanding that contains a core agreement which will protect the rights of the municipal workers who will be asked to vacate their jobs as part of the multi-ethnic process in Brcko’s administration.
The Supervisor reminds all participants – the trade unions, the R.S. government and the Brcko municipal government and all in leadership positions — of their responsibilities to work toward bringing a better quality of life to all residents of the Brcko municipality.
