OHR and UNMIBH condemn Bratunac incident

The Office of the High Representative and the UN Mission in BiH condemn in the strongest possible terms yesterday’s violent incident in Bratunac, where several buses carrying pre-war Bosniak residents were stoned by an angry mob.

The freedom of movement in BiH is guaranteed under Annex 6 of the DPA – as is the freedom of peaceful assembly and the freedom of expression.

The OHR and UNMiBH note that the local police did their best to restrain the crowd, and that a number of them were injured in the incident.

The OHR and UNMiBH urge the authorities in Bratunac to continue to apply the rule of law, and to apprehend and punish those responsible for this disgraceful attack. There can be no place for such criminal behaviour in any modern European state.
