Lajčák Asks Citizens to Have Their Say on www.reci.ba

“To what extent have politicians and political parties fulfilled the promises made at the last elections? Are you satisfied with what they have achieved to improve your lives?”

This is the question put to citizens today by High Representative and EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčák in a video message on the website www.reci.ba, as part of the campaign on BiH’s European perspective.

Following visits to 16 cities and towns across BiH, the EU Special Representative continues his dialogue with citizens on the Internet, in an effort to actively engage them in BiH’ European integration process.

Part and parcel of this dialogue are Miroslav Lajčák’s answers to comments and questions posted by citizens. Asked to explain the EU’s view on the population census, the EU Special Representative stressed in a video message that BiH must become part of global and European statistical databases. “One key reason is the need to obtain precise statistical information for a comparative assessment of BiH on the world map according to various criteria. Even more importantly, BiH needs a census to join various programmes and benefit from European funds, in particular funds linked to regional development.”

The EU Special Representative also emphasised that the population census is a matter for the state level, and that domestic politicians must find an agreement “that will not lead to further divisions n BiH”, adding that “this is their responsibility, and we must all hold them to it”.
