The High Representative, Carlos Westendorp, warmly congratulates the Spanish Brigade X “Almogavares” for their highly professional demining of the road between Dubrovnik and Trebinje last weekend.
He now expects the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia to open the border crossing Ivanica-Brgat to civilian traffic within the next few weeks. The opening of this crossing point will greatly contribute to the economic development of the region.
During the war, the Croatian Army (HV) had placed a total of 2,600 kg of ordnance in three pits underneath the road on Federation territory. The explosives had to be removed as they posed a threat to security.
The completion of the demining operation and road works and the opening of the border crossing represent the continued development of a positive relationship between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia and a further return to normalcy.
The High Representative yesterday visited the Spanish SFOR Brigade in Medjugorje to express his gratitude and bid farewell to them.
