The High Representative, Carlos Westendorp, as well as his deputies Jacques Paul Klein and Hanns Schumacher extend their most sincere condolences to the family and friends on the death of the Deputy Minister of Interior, Jozo Leutar.
Having worked with Mr. Leutar and witnessed first hand his fortitude and leadership in his difficult role as a key official of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, they are personally deeply saddened by this tragic event. Mr. Leutar’s courageous efforts to advance the cause of justice under difficult circumstances will be remembered. Their thoughts are also with his colleagues in the Federation leadership and in the Ministry at this time.
The OHR reiterates its earlier call on the local authorities to take aggressive measures to expeditiously complete the investigation and identify, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
In the face of this tragedy, OHR must remind all that it is the responsibility of all parties to maintain public peace and desist from engaging in rhetoric which would only serve to fan the flames of fear and unrest among the citizens of the Federation.
We are sure that Mr. Leutar himself, an activist for peace and public order, would have wished this.
