Sarajevo – The BiH Standing Military Committee did not hold a session in Lukavica today. Mirza Hajric, Advisor to President Izetbegovic explained that the session was adjourned due to the fact the new BiH flag was not displayed at an adequate place and reminded that the Law on Flag had to be observed throughout BiH. The High Rep condemned the interruption of the session of this body and issued the instruction that future meetings of the Committee are to be held with the BiH flag displaced properly. Likewise, all joint BiH institutions will have to display the BiH flag.

At today’s session of the F BiH House of Peoples in Sarajevo, the federal budget was endorsed as well as a set of pertaining regulations. The budget for 1998 amounts to 918 million Deutsche marks and it is for one-third bigger than the last year’s. A greater portion of revenues will be collected from taxes and levies, while largest expenditures are related to defense and welfare support of war affected population. The Parliament also adopted a set of draft-laws, amongst which the most important are the laws on bankruptcy and liquidation.

Vladimir Soljic, Vice President of the BiH Federation met with HR Carlos Westendorp in Sarajevo. The High Representative rendered his support for the formation of a joint body composed of Croat and Bosniak representatives and international officials to determine true results in the process of return, distribution of aid, national structure in cantonal interior ministries and other relevant facts, reads a statement issued after the talks. The statement further said that Mr. Westendorp proposed a concept of uniform organization of public companies in the city of Mostar. Thus, the utilization of hydro-power stations on the river Neretva should be resolved on the same principle as for the Mostar airport.

Under auspices of IPTF, the top Gorazde officials met today with their counterparts from Serb Gorazde to discuss modalities for economic cooperation. The next meeting will be held on 10 April when working teams will be selected.
