News Summary
Serb Radio Doboj changes name into Radio-Doboj
A local radio station in Doboj, Serb Radio Doboj, changed its name to Radio-Doboj. Radio-Doboj Editor-in-Chief Zoran Markovic stated that Radio-Doboj is registered under that name, adding that “the word Serb has been exploited in the past for certain reasons, and that time has passed.” Markovic added that Radio-Doboj should be open to all citizens, as is Doboj Municipality. Following the opening of the new Radio-Doboj pilot relay transmitter, RS Information Minister Rajko Vasic stated, “we have said many times that the interest is not a public corporation within a TV program, but to create democratic TV stations within the entities and connect the two companies by the model of JRT (Yugoslav RTV). The two should cooperate regarding program exchange and OHR issues, and entity governments should not be involved. That is unacceptable. A decision to form state TV, which is not our interest, the interest of the RS, was made, and we see this as a field for new conflicts. Our interest is not the existence of someone who will produce a program for all of BiH and have all frequencies and relay transmitters.” Answering the question of why he is against an RTV on the state level, Vasic stated, “I have worked for TV Sarajevo, which was a state TV, and it was the best in the former Yugoslavia, but fell apart in five minutes. You think the times we have gone through can be fixed and that we can continue where we left off. Well, we cannot.”
