Kosovo – The situation on Kosovo has a deteriorating tendency. The strongest attacks by Serb forces occurred in the region of Pec, Pristina and Decani. Rockets Earth-to-Earth were launched yesterday, while two civilian casualties occurred and today due to sniper fire. Agencies inform that two Serb policemen were killed. (There follow the stances of various countries with regards to Kosovo crisis.) Kosovo was the key topic at yesterday’s meeting of Prime Ministers of Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey in Sofia. Neither discussion content, nor the conclusions were made public.

The Hague – The prosecution of Milan Kovacevic continues before the Hague Tribunal tomorrow. Kovacevic has been accused for genocide, crime against humanity and war crimes in the community of Prijedor in the year of 1992. In an introduction speech at the opening of the process on July 6, The Tribunal Prosecutor Brenda Hall said that he (Kovacevic) took part in the crimes consciously and willingly.

Busovaca – A seminar which took place in Busovaca, yesterday showed that the key factor in providing conditions for the refugee returns is co-operation between the authorities, especially local ones, and various non-government organisations. The goal of the seminar, which was organised by the Independent Office for the Humanitarian Questions, was to initiate a process of this co-operation. There follow some examples of smooth returns.

Stolac – Chairman of the Municipal Council in Stolac, Kemal Isakovic sent a letter to the HR Carlos Westendorp, informing him of two Bosniak houses which were set afire last night, ONASA reported. The epilogue is well known: The culprits are unknown, an investigation under way, reads a letter. The letter signatory asks further whether the IC was capable of creating peace and freedom in Stolac.

Srebrenica – In yesterday’s and today’s marking of the third anniversary of the Srebrenica tragedy, a message has been voiced that the truth about those who had been missing since 11 July 1995 must be found out. There follow a report on the late BiH TV journalist Nihad Catic, who disappeared after his 11 July report from Srebrenica. Today, in Zivinice, three years later, his book The hopeless people was presented. The relatives and friends who survived the tragedy attended the launch. His rhymes also featured those who announced the poet’s tragic destiny – death.

There follow a reportage on Srebrenica three years ago, combined with constant demands of refugees to be enabled to go back to their homes. Especially the residents of Prijedor, Novi, Kozara villages insist on returning home. A question was put at the end whether peace will last in these regions. Mirza Hajric was then accessed for comment in relation to the issue. He said that the IC is interested in stabilisation of peace in the region.

Sarajevo – Members of the Association of Independent Intellectuals Circle 99 met with the representatives of the American Institute for Peace to discuss the aims and modalities of work of the commission for the truth and reconciliation in BiH, which is being established in BiH.
