by the High Representative, Carlos Westendorp
Appointment of new Principal Deputy High Representative
The Hague, 02 July 1997
|
In welcoming the appointment of General Jacques Klein as the new
Principal Deputy High Representative in the Hague today the High
Representative Carlos Westendorp made the following statement:
"When I asked the United States Government to nominate a candidate for
the position of Principal Deputy High Representative I asked for someone
who had recent experience in the region and who had already been engaged
with some of the key personalities. The United States Government offered
me just such a man in Jacques Klein and I warmly welcome him on to my
staff. As I wanted he will bring with him considerable knowledge of the
politics of the area through his experience and outstanding work as head
of the United Nations Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia.
I look forward very much to working with him in the months ahead."
N.B: The official announcement of the appointment will be made in the
UN at midday in New York.
