EU PRESS RELEASEEuropean Commission Welcomes the Appointment of the Council of Ministers23 February 2000 |
The European Commission welcomes todayıs vote by the BiH House of Representatives to approve the Chair of the Council of Ministers Mr Bozidar Matic and the Council of Ministers. The voters in Bosnia and Herzegovina entrusted them the important and difficult tasks of reforming the state institutions, implementing necessary economic reforms, creating a single market in Bosnia and Herzegovina and safeguarding the rights of all citizens including the return of refugees and displaced persons. These and other necessary steps are set out in the European Unionıs "Road Map" and by completing them the Council of Ministers can take Bosnia and Herzegovina one step further on the road to European integration. The European Commission urges the Council of Ministers to assume a leading role in implementing the necessary reforms in order to make Bosnia and Herzegovina politically and economically self-sustainable. Reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina can only succeed if all relevant institutions cooperate. The European Commission expects a close cooperation between the Entity governments and the Council of Ministers as well as a cooperative attitude by the respective Parliaments in order to fulfil the aspirations of the people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely to live in a stable, peaceful and prosperous country. |
