Matei Hoffmann

Sarajevo, 20 July 1999

Ambassador Matei Hoffmann arrives in Sarajevo today to take up his duties as the new Senior Deputy High Representative in BiH. Hoffmann has left Prizren where he had served as Head of the German Federal Government's Civilian Coordination Office for Kosovo. He replaces Hanns Schumacher who has recently been appointed Deputy Chief of Mission of the German UN Mission in New York.

Hoffmann, who holds a doctorate in law, can look back on close to 20 years of experience in the German Foreign Service. Assignments abroad included Washington, Porto Alegre, Paris and - as Deputy Chief Mission - Rome. In Bonn he has served - inter alia - as Personal Assistant to the State Secretary of the German Foreign Office and as Head of the Office of former Chancellor Helmut Kohl in the Federal Chancellery.
