Yesterday, 2nd July, the Federal Ministry of Defence made two important
statements concerning the establishment of a combat training centre at
Livno/Glamoc. At 10.00 hrs a press conference was held by Assistant
Minister of Defence Prce to provide local press with an outline of the
measures taken to ensure that those affected by the construction of the
range would be treated fairly. The OHR, in its position as chair of the
Commission set up to ensure the establishment of the Centre is consistent
with civilian aspects of the Dayton Accords, welcomes this move by the
Federation MOD to bring the issue into the public domain.
Later Assistant Minister Prce briefed the Standing Committee on Military Matters, including representatives of the RS MOD and the VRS, on the establishment of the range. During this presentation he proposed an exchange of liaison officers between the VF and the VRS at the Livno/Glamoc and Manjaca facilities. OHR welcomes this example of the SCMM fulfilling its function in encouraging transparency between the entities.
