The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, today briefed several senior international officials on his Decision last Friday to establish a Provisional Administration in Hercegovacka Banka, winning their full support for his actions.
United States Secretary of State Colin Powell, just ahead of his official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, sent a message expressing his full support for the High Representative's Decision on Hercegovacka Banka. Javier Solana, the European Union's High Representative for External Affairs, today spoke by telephone to the High Representative, conveying the EU Foreign Minister's full backing for his actions on Hercegovacka Bank. In the call, Mr Solana said the High Representative's moves to promote transparency and rule of law in all financial institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including Hercegovacka Banka, were vital to the future of BiH. NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson, in a telephone conversation, also gave his full support to the High Representative, expressing concern that the instigators behind Friday's violence in Mostar and elsewhere face the full weight of the law. Late on Monday, the High Representative briefed Croatia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tonino Picula, on the latest information he had on Hercegovacka Banka. The International Community backs fully the High Representative's determination to crack down on attempts by extremist elements inside the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) to establish and finance illegal parallel structures in BiH, which are a direct threat to the Dayton Peace Accords.
