In order to implement paragraph 11 of the Annex to the Final Arbitration Award for Brcko, the Brcko District Government, through its Education Department based on the Decision of the Mayor, has created the Primary Education Quality Board. The Board is composed of three representatives of District educators, the Assistant for pre-school and primary education in the District Education Department, OHR North and District Management Team representatives, representatives of the European Commission Technical Assistance to the Education Reform in BiH, a representative of CIVITAS and a representative of the humanitarian agency World Vision.
The Board’s inaugural meeting took place on March 6, 2001, and the first working meeting was held on March 15. At this working meeting, the working groups and coordination bodies were created to work on harmonization of the curricula, and cooperation with teaching staff, students and parents. The working groups will start their activities at the beginning of April, and the Board will pay special attention to the protection of the national interests of all constituent peoples and the citizens of the District. Another common concern is also the improvement of the quality of existing curricula and the reduction of their content that will inevitably lead to more efficient and more interesting work for both teachers and students. For at timely and accurate public information campaign, a special working group for public relations, composed of OHR, Government and European Commission Public Affairs, has been created. The main objective is that the activities of all the working bodies should be transparent and presented to the public in an accurate way, to permit all those concerned with education in the District to give positive contribution to this process. Various types of information campaign will be issued following every activity of the groups and the Board itself. The Primary Education Quality Board is asking all students and their teachers, as well as the parents, for their active participation in the creation of quality education by forwarding their suggestions to the Board through their school management, and by participation in various activities that will be organized by the relevant working groups.
