High Representative meets HDZ vice-presidents Covic and Ljubic

Sarajevo, 14 March 2001

The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, today met with HDZ leaders Dragan Covic and Bozo Ljubic on their request. The High Representative stressed that he remains open for dialogue with all constructive forces within the HDZ.

During their meeting, the High Representative, Mr Covic and Mr Ljubic exchanged their views on how Croat interests in BiH can be furthered within in the legal institutions of this country. In this regard, the High Representative, Mr Covic and Mr Ljubic had a constructive discussion about the possible participation of the HDZ in the Constitutional Commissions, which are working on implementing the Constitutional Court's Ruling. The process of drafting a new election law, and its content, were also discussed at length. Once again, the High Representative pointed out that there will be no Bosnia and Herzegovina without the Croats.

The High Representative stressed that he will not tolerate any illegal or unconstitutional behaviour and will forcefully act against criminal elements. He is committed to protect the rule of law and to further implement the Dayton Peace Agreement.
