The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, met yesterday, Thursday February 1st, with the new Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Bozidar Matic, to discuss the future work and priorities of the new Council of Ministers.
The High Representative re-emphasised the need to tackle issues put forward by the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council at its meeting held in Brussels on December 7th, 2000. The 10 point priority list calls for developments in co-operation in the fields of: defence; the development of a common defence policy and the reduction of defence expenditures; the fight against corruption; co-operation with the International Criminal Tribunal in the Hague (ICTY), improvement in co-operation with neighbouring states; minority return; property law implementation and the creation of conditions conducive to refugee return; the implementation of the Constitutional Court's ruling on the constituent status of all BiH peoples and citizens in both Entities; the fight against illegal migration through Bosnia and Herzegovina; and the reconstruction of all significant places of worship and historical and religious monuments. The High Representative emphasised the need for the new Chair of the Council of Ministers to build an effective team supported by a professional Civil Service, whose selection is based on merit, and who will ensure that these goals are met by Bosnia and Herzegovina.
