AFU visits Una-Sana Canton

Sarajevo, 21 January 2000

OHR's Anti-Fraud Unit visited Una-Sana Canton earlier this week to meet with the Minister of Justice and members of the judiciary to discuss ways of enhancing ongoing anti-corruption efforts in the Canton, and to identify where assistance and expertise are most needed. OHR, UNMiBH and OSCE reviewed institutional and other impediments to the Rule of Law, and discussed problems concerning transparency in the upcoming privatization process. OHR is concerned about difficulties in the privatization process, and with the investigation and prosecution of economic crimes.

As a result of the visit, AFU personnel intend to take a closer look at activities in Una-Sana Canton in the future. OHR will continue to collaborate with UNMiBH, OSCE and other international organizations in order to support and encourage further anti-fraud and anti-corruption efforts.

OHR is firmly committed to supporting and assisting those law enforcement agencies and judicial institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina which are committed to fighting economic crime, and will closely monitor further anti-corruption and transparency activities in the Una-Sana Canton.
