As the only cross-entity television broadcaster in Bosnia & Herzegovina, the OBN reflects the aims, aspirations and cultures of its people of all ethnic groups providing the viewers with programming they can trust, whether locally produced or acquired from other sources. The history ...The OBN was established by the international community as an alternative broadcaster to ensure the country's first post-war elections in 1996 were conducted in a free and fair environment. The OBN went on air on 7th September 1996. The OBN has received support from the European Commission, the US government, the Soros Open Society Institute Foundation, and the governments of the UK, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, Luxembourg, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Norway, Italy, Turkey and Denmark. The affiliates have the responsibility to offer the network the best their local production facilities can produce in both news and programming. The overall aim of OBN is to provide Bosnia and Herzegovina with a locally run but national and cross-entity TV network which reflects the aims, aspirations and culture of its people of all ethnic groups and provides the viewers with programming they can trust, whether locally produced or acquired from other sources. While drawing on all points of view, the OBN will never transmit programming which incites hatred or leads to conflict. Its news, current affairs and documentary programmes are produced to the highest journalistic and technical standards and the overall schedule provides a mix of entertainment and information which offers the viewer the best possible choice. All affiliates have the responsibility to offer the network the best their local production facilities can produce in both news and programming. In return the network must help the affiliates improve their standards with regular feedback and by helping them obtain the best possible facilities and personnel. OBN has a commitment to training and developing skills at all levels, but particularly to encouraging young journalists, technicians and managers in fulfilling their potential.
