OBN - Ideal TV for Bosnia & Herzegovina

11 March 1999

This month's issue of Media News concludes that The Open Broadcast Network comes the closest to the ideal of a Bosnian-Herzegovinian television station based on monitoring seven days of OBN's TV INFO.

Media News, a fortnightly specialised service on the media scene in Bosnia & Herzegovina, monitored OBN's transmission of TV INFO and reported, "TV INFO is 'free' from press releases, open letters and other non-journalistic expressions that are widely present in similar programs on other TV stations in Sarajevo. It does not provoke additional tension among the three national groups in Bosnia & Herzegovina" and "Items showing cooperation between people and entities are being emphasised".

The report also stated, "TV INFO is really fit for television much more than its competitors, who often use telops or for long periods only show announcers reading various statements" and how " a positive trend in OBN's items is supplementing reports with additional statements given by participants in an event".

Media News also reported, " OBN does not avoid items dealing with so-called sensitive issues. There are also everyday items about efforts to reconstruct the country and projects invested into by the international community in Bosnia & Herzegovina".
