OBN Enters Next Phase of Development

20 October 1998

The Open Broadcast Network, the only independent national cross-entity television network in Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirms it is now in a financially viable position so that it is attractive to potential investors, both from Bosnia and Herzegovina and overseas.

However, the OBN will never be sold off. When the operating TV company becomes a shareholding enterprise, a significant proportion of shares will be reserved for employees and also for affiliates to acquire it they so wish. The OBN International Trust will remain in operation with the main purpose of attracting further international investment and sponsorship.

Relying heavily on donations from twelve donor countries in the past has been vital for the OBN to function as a fully operational national television station. However, with the significant stabilization of the project through an increase in programming, viewing figures, affiliates and transmission upgrades it is now ready to enter the next phase of the overall company plan.

The future of The Open Broadcast Network has always been envisaged as being a Bosnian network self-supporting by sales and sponsorship. However there will be a specific criteria for interested investors to adhere to in order to maintain the original aims and objectives for the company. An International Board of Trustees will oversee all operations and strategy of the OBN to ensure it fulfills all the clauses of its editorial charter and mission statement and continues to give the viewers the balanced, informative and entertaining schedule of programming they have a right to expect.
