OBN hopes these programmes will attract an even wider audience and provide the regular viewers with even more choice. For further information contact: Sally Aldred, Manager Press & Publicity OBN * 00 387 71 212 950 Note for Editors: Starting on Friday 2nd October at 20:35 will be a new American series, FAMILY MATTERS, a half hour comedy focusing on the members of the close-knit Winslow family where the only things that really count are love, laughter and of course 'FAMILY MATTERS'. At the helm of the Winslow clan is Carl (Reginald Vel Johnson also seen in Die Hard), a tough Chicago cop who transforms into a teddy bear at home. His wife, Harriette (Jo Marie Payton Noble seen in perfect Strangers), not only works but tends to the needs of their diverse family, including the eldest child Eddie (Darius McCrary), witty daughter Laura (Kellie Shanygne Williams), young nephew Richie Crawford (Bryton BcClure) and mother-in-law Mother Winslow (Rosetta LeNoire). Adding to the confusion is the Winslow's nerdy, accident-prone neighbor, Steve Urkel (played by Jaleel White), who is a constant source of irritation to everyone, especially Carl. If only their house was as big as their hearts ! As the Winslows brace themselves for life's inevitable ups and downs, they continually prove that FAMILY MATTERS. *** The other new American series is GROWING PAINS scheduled at 21:05 which will follow FAMILY MATTERS and continue the Friday evening light entertainment theme. GROWING PAINS focuses on the members of the Seavers family as they tackle everyday life individually and as a family. Parents, Maggie Seaver (Joanna Kerns) and Jason Seaver (Alan Thicke) have decided to make certain adjustments in their life which has involved Maggie rejoining the work force as newspaper reporter and her psychiatrist husband moving his practice to the home. Jason misses the times he once spent alone with Maggie, and Maggie is having housewife withdrawal symptoms. But the Seavers, the warmth of the family unit makes it all worthwhile even though communication at the breakfast table is sometimes difficult with their three children. Mike (Kirk Cameron) is a typically 'cool', clever 15-year old ruled by his hormones. Carol (Tracey Gold) at 13 is a precocious whiz-kid who would rather concern herself with the degenerating matter in the universe than think about boys and 9-year old Ben (Jeremy Miller) lives only for television. Don't miss this witty account of life in the Seaver's household as they experience their own GROWING PAINS ! *** For the younger viewers OBN have just the right combination of programmes which will certainly keep them entertained !
