OBN - First Outside Broadcast

Sarajevo, 8 September 1998

On Sunday 6th September The Open Broadcast Network broadcast for the first time using its Outside Broadcast Unit.

The Outside Broadcast Unit has always been an integral part of the transmission output from the Hub in Sarajevo. Recent technical upgrading, provided by German donations, has now allowed the vehicle and equipment to be moved more readily to cover outside events.

Broadcasting from Mostar for live coverage of the Presidential debates, the Open Broadcast Network was able to bring programming to Bosnia and Herzegovina through its own network of twelve transmission sites and through the SRT and RTVBiH Networks.

Additional output was fed to Europe by Satellite systems in Brussels which re-broadcast across Europe, transmitting the OBN programme into the main refugee locations in these European countries.
