PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

As part of our legal reform strategy, the Anti-Crime and Corruption Unit of the Office of the High Representative has a monitoring mandate. By virtue of the Decision of the High Representative, Trial Observers have access to court files and are required to independently analyze and report on court proceedings taking place throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Review and analyze requests for observation of judicial proceedings.

·        Attend judicial proceedings involving allegations of serious crime, including fraud and corruption.

·        Read and summarize court documents, translating into English where appropriate.

·        Report on proceedings, with a view toward identifying and analyzing systemic problems.

·        Assist ACCU prosecutors with research and casework.

·        Assist in administrative matters regarding cases, filing of cases etc. as and when requested by Head of Department or ACCU prosecutors.

·        Liaise with prosecutors, judges and/or police officers, as and when requested by ACCU prosecutors.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:          

·        BiH national, with Law Degree or Criminology Degree from a university in Bosnia and Herzegovina or elsewhere. Alternatively, a student in the last year of legal or criminological studies.

·        Previous experience with or exposure to the criminal laws and criminal procedural laws currently in force in Bosnia and Herzegovina is highly desirable.

·        Ability to interact with national and international experts.

·        Personal commitment to peace implementation and anti-fraud and corruption work in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

·        Ability to work well in independently and in a team.

·        Excellent command of oral and written English and good writing skills.

·        Excellent computer skills.
