Prime Ministers To Meet To Prepare For Srebrenica Discussion

The OHR’s Principal Deputy High Representative (PDHR), Raffi Gregorian met today in Sarajevo with the President of the Initiative Board for the Special Status for Srebrenica, Camil Durakovic.
The PDHR and Mr. Durakovic discussed OHR’s plans to hold a meeting this week of senior government officials from both entities and BiH authorities to prepare for the High Representative’s meeting next week of all the relevant agencies involved in improving the situation in Srebrenica.
The High Representative, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, had last week announced his intention to bring together Bosnia and Herzegovina ’s political leaders and all the relevant agencies to define the practical steps that must be taken to accelerate justice, ensure a sustainable return process and improve the quality of life in Srebrenica and the surrounding areas.
By improving conditions in Srebrenica the authorities will begin to fulfill a profound and pressing obligation towards the victims of genocide.
“Srebrenica is a special case and must remain at the top of the Government agendas,” said the PDHR today. “We must ensure that BiH’s political leaders understand their special obligation in respect of Srebrenica, with special attention on justice and security issues” he added.
The PDHR and Mr. Durakovic discussed the security of Srebrenica citizens currently encamped in Sarajevo and of those who remained in Srebrenica. “Those who perpetrated these crimes cannot continue to walk free; the dragnet for them must be closed” said the PDHR today.
