PDHR Meets JNA Pensioners

Principal Deputy High Representative Raffi Gregorian met today with Mr. Mujo Kafedzic, Mr. Milenko Andjelic and Mr. Milan Acic who represent officers who retired from the former Jugoslav National Army (JNA) before 1992.

These JNA pensioners, who live in the FBiH, explained that they are only receiving 50% of their pre-war pension earned during their service with the JNA. Their former colleagues who live on the territory of the RS receive 100%.

The PDHR noted that while appeals to the Court in Strasbourg had rejected arguments on human rights grounds, nevertheless the Agreement on Succession of the Former SFRY says pensions should be paid.

“Pensions are an Entity competency,” said PDHR Gregorian. “The situation is fundamentally unfair to these ageing citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Entity representatives should show understanding for this population and address the issue in accordance with the Succession Agreement.”
