After an implementation period of almost eight years, the Agreement on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures inBosnia and Herzegovina has formally ended at today’s final meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission that took place in Sarajevo.
The Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for Articles II and IV, Brigadier General Claudio Sampaolo, representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina , Republika Srpska and Federation BiH signed the document that officially terminates the Agreement.
The decision to terminate the Agreement was taken mid June in Vienna at a meeting of representatives of the parties to the Agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and its two Entities, the Federation BiH and the Republika Srpska, at which they decided that, as a result of extensive reforms in the country, the Agreement could be terminated.
The OSCE Mission to BiH and OHR commend the representatives of BiH, the Federation BiH and the RS for this major success for the ongoing reconciliation process in Bosnia and Herzegovina and thank as well the present and past Personal Representatives of the Chairman–in–Office, Major General Claudio Zappulla and Brigadier General Claudio Sampaolo, for their tireless efforts in making this possible.
