OHR’s Statement at the International Agency’s Joint Press Conference

  • The Federation Governments faces one of its most important economic decisions today. This morning they are considering how to resolve the dispute over the Aluminj plant. How this issue is resolved will have enormous implications for the future of the BiH economy.
  • Aluminij is one of BiH’s largest and a significant factor in the economy of BiH, responsible for nearly 10% of BiH’s exports. If the company shuts down it would put potentially thousands of jobs at risk, send a negative message to investors that BiH is not a safe place to invest, and undermine international confidence that BiH is moving in the right direction.
  • Finding a solution to the issue of Aluminij’s energy needs is absolutely indispensable for the well-being of the BiH economy.
  • The OHR believes that the proposal put forward by Prime Minister Hadzipasic concerning an interim solution is fair and commercially sound. The OHR calls on all the parties represented in the Federation Government to support this solution in the interests of the BiH economy and the well-being and future prosperity of all the citizens of BiH.
