At a session of the RS Government, most attention was given to the pre-draft law on budget, changes and amendments to the Law on excises and taxes on transactions as well as to issues relating to the functioning of the electricity supply system in the RS.

The RS Government concluded that the strike of teachers, which started in some schools of the RS today, was unjustified. The Government called on all employees of the education sector to normalise teaching work, commiting itself to undertake activities aimed at improving the material status of all beneficiaries of the republic budget. Teachers in the RS, more precisely the Union of Education, are requesting from the Government an increase in the minimum wage from 60 to 80 KM and the payment of unpaid material expenses.

An RS Government delegation headed by the PM Milorad Dodik paid a working visit to Prijedor today. During the 3-hour meeting in the municipal building, all vital issues of this second largeset city in the RS were tackled, starting with the political-security situation, the most concrete implementation of Annex 7 of the DA, which was assessed as very positive, all the way to various economic and party topics.

The Sarajevo-based daily “Vecernje novine” carries information that the HR Carlos Westendorp will try, in the course of the next year, to return 20,000 refugees from the minority groups to Sarajevo, between 10,000-15,000 to Banja Luka and 5,000 refugees to Mostar. The magazine suggests that the HR Carlos Westendorp will present these objectives at the forthcoming Madrid conference on the implementation of the DA.

The bridge on the river Sava near Raca is closed for road traffic from this morning, and from tomorrow it will be closed for rail traffic as well. This border crossing is closed due to the reconstruction of the railway and the road. The works will last until December 26, 1998.
