The OSCE explained today that the preliminary electoral results in BiH could not be released today because of the amount of work and a large number of unverified ballots. According to OSCE, 10% of voters voted on unverified ballots. Robert Barry, Head of the OSCE, said at a press conference in Sarajevo that counting of votes is not yet completed and that releasing partial results could have undesirable consequences. Barry said that counting will be completed by Friday, when the preliminary results should be presented to the public.

Representatives of the SRS, Pantelija Damjanovic and Svetozar Radulovic, today informed the press about electoral results for the office of the President of the RS, which are identical to OSCE results, as the SRS representatives stated. The winner in this race is Mr. Nikola Poplasen who won about 60,000 votes more than his opponent, Mrs. Biljana Plavsic. The Radicals emphasised that Poplasen won in the majority of RS cities. Damjanovic condemned the statements of the SNS, as they were releasing inaccurate information on the results of the electoral race.

The “Sloga” Coalition warned the public to be cautious about information “aggressively presented in the media by some parties”. The Coalition considers that such exaggerated presentation of alleged victory of some parties is politically harmful. The “Sloga” also expresses its worry about the large number of invalid ballots, which were in 99% of cases votes meant for this Coalition.

The Head of the RS Police Administration, Ljubisa Savic-Mauzer, was suspended from his post by the IPTF. Representatives of international organisations clarified this decision at a press conference held in Sarajevo. The UN Spokeswoman, Kelly Moore, said that the IPTF Commissioner, in consultations with the Special Representative of the Secretary General, yesterday disqualified Savic, as the IPTF investigation found irrefutable proof that he directly participated and supervised the harassment and torture of illegally imprisoned persons in Pale.

Tania Domi, Chairman of the OSCE Media Experts Commission, in a press release condemned the arrest and apprehension of the BiH TV crew in Banja Luka on September 13th. Illegal arrest and apprehension of journalists is banned by the regulations of the EASC, referring to the media, states the release.

The HR to BiH, Carlos Westendorp, decided that the new deadline for submitting of Claims for Repossession of Apartments is April 4th, 1999. The decision on the new deadline was made because the Cabinet of the HR was not satisfied with the results so far.

The representatives of the RS Government, led by the RS PM, Milorad Dodik, today met with the representatives of the World Bank in Banja Luka. The Head of the WB to BiH, Christian Poortman, told the press that the meeting focused on the current economic situation and the progress made in implementation of the Wide Support Programme of the WB to BiH. The RS Minister, Novak Kondic, told the press that they also discussed preparations for the next donors’ conference.
