Dodik interview with Banja Luka daily Dnevne Nezavisne Novine

RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik gave an interview to the Banja Luka daily Dnevne Nezavisne Novine for its upcoming Monday edition. Dodik commented on a request by BiH Council of Ministers Co-chairman Haris Silajdzic concerning the immediate revision of the Dayton Peace Agreement. Silajdzic made the statement during a meeting in Sofia of seven prime ministers of regional countries and envoys of the EU and NATO. Dodik said that this Silajdzic statement shows that dialogue with Silajdzic is impossible. “Silajdzic is the greatest factor of disturbance for good and stable relations in BiH” added Dodik. Dodik said that discussion is possible only on the basis of the Dayton Peace Agreement and on the augmentation of this agreement, not on the basis of its revision or annulment. “Silajdzic has been a politician since 1990 and has had an influence on the tragic events that occurred over the past ten years in this region” said Dodik. Repeatedly accusing others while giving oneself absolution is arrogant, to say the least, he added. Dodik also commented on claims that [Silajdzic] is working with the IC to create a constitutional/legal framework. Dodik stated that such a framework exists and that it is called the BiH Constitution. Also, Dodik said that he would request information from IC envoys if they were working together with Silajdzic on such a framework. “We (possible referring to RS officials) will request that High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch officially interprets these claims by Silajdzic. Recently, politicians from the BiH Federation have attempted to pardon themselves from the tragic events in the period 1992-1995, said Dodik. That is absolutely impossible because Silajdzic was a wartime leader who had an influence over the bloodshed and situation in this area, considers Dodik. The departure of people like Silajdzic is inevitable, he added. Asked about the Silajdzic statement that The Hague is the only place for Milosevic, Dodik answered that “maybe The Hague is the only place for Silajdzic. Time will tell us if this is true or not. (…) The RS is not a product (creation) of Milosevic, but a product of the Dayton Peace Agreement.” Dodik said that he does not want to protect Milosevic, but the in formal/judicial context, there is still quite a way to go before showing and proving culpability. “We will most probably request the definite political responsibility of Haris Silajdzic and his removal from the political scene” said Dodik. If the High Representative does not undertake measures for Silajdzic’s removal, that will definitely show that the IC and Silajdzic are working together on revision of the Dayton Peace Agreement without the political public in the RS and BiH, concluded Dodik.
