News Summary

Vasic statement not attitude of RS authorities – Haselock

Deputy High Representative for the Media Simon Haselock stated for SRNA that RS Information Minister Rajko Vasic’s statement on the session of the Public Broadcast Service Establishment Board in Banja Luka is not the attitude of the RS authorities. Haselock added that there is no confusion in the RS regarding the Public Broadcast Service of BiH, but only Vasic is confusing. According to Haselock, the Service is not going to lessen the significance of RTV RS, but provide it with an approach to international programs. Commenting on Vasic’s statement that the RS National Assembly would discuss the Public Broadcast Service, Haselock stated that the Assembly is not authorized to do so. Haselock said that the Service was formed on the BiH level and is under the authority of the BiH Presidency, BiH Council of Ministers and BiH Parliament. When asked why BiH Federation TV was not formed first, Haselock said that that will be done simultaneously. Commenting on Vasic’s statement that there are attempts to give the Establishment Board the authority to form a public corporation for relays and transmission without the consent of the entities, Haselock said that those are two separate issues. The public corporation for transmission should be engaged in RS and BiH Federation cooperation in transmission, including mobile telephone services and other telecommunications. According to him, if the RS and BiH Federation want to have an electronic system of transmission based on the most modern technology, they must create the conditions to attract foreign investors, the best way being through a Public Broadcast Service.
