News Summary

Srebrenica women gather in front of SFOR Eagle Base in Tuzla

The fifth anniversary of the suffering of Srebrenica and Podrinje region is due in one month. On the threshold of this event, the Organization of Srebrenica Women held a peaceful protest in front of SFOR Eagle Base in Tuzla. They warned of the failure to ensure a secure environment for the refugee return to that region. The message of Srebrenica Women is that unarmed IPTF police officers, the occasional SFOR patrol and the mono-national local police are not guarantee enough for their safe return. President of the Organization of Srebrenica Women Hajra Catic stated that they have gathered with only one goal in mind: for SFOR to deploy its troops in the Podrinje region. The Organization of Srebrenica Women also warned there are many mass graves that have still not been opened (found), and that a large number of perpetrators of the Srebrenica crime are still hiding (are at liberty) in the Podrinje region. In a statement issued after his meeting with the representatives of the Organization of Srebrenica Women, the Commander of SFOR Multi-National Division North said that SFOR would continue to ensure the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, as well as providing security for all citizens.
