Lozancic on Prce’s pardon

Bise – FBiH President Niko Lozancic stated on Friday that his decision on granting pardon to Miroslav Prce, former FBiH Defence Minister, is legally and constitutionally grounded. He added that this decision was an act of mercy and it has nothing to do with Prce’s political, national or any other orientation. Lozancic underlines that he issued several decisions on granting pardon in the past period, only the one in relation to Prce attracted attention of public and many “defendants of moral, legal and all other principles, often promoted without arguments”. He also mentioned Head of the Office for Corruption and Organized Crime within BiH Prosecution, John McNair, as the one who reached bargain with Prce on 5 instead of 15 years in prison, however, according to Lozancic none paid attention to that. In relation to the OHR and the High Representative Paddy Ashdown, Lozancic says that Ashdown cannot stand easily when someone has a different opinion from his own. “I know that they are conceited and vengeful, and I know that I can expect a new campaign against my next possible decisions on any issue…” said Lozancic. He added: “I claim that the medical reports, on the ground of which I have decided to pardon Prce, are absolutely valid… I have to say that after the ‘mess’ which has been caused, I am sorry for not having Prce’s sentence more radically reduced.’ |
OHR on Lozancic’s stand on Prce’s pardon
| FTV – The OHR commented that Niko Lozancic has a right on his own opinion and that the fact is that existing law allows granting of pardon without any explanations. Still, 48 out of 225requests for pardon were approved this year in the RS, while 94 requests were approved in the FBiH out of 298, which were filed. The OHR pointed out that this is not about granting pardon to Prce, but it is about the system that allows making of such decisions without control and which has to be reviewed. |
