Zagreb

After the six month trial of Dinko Sakic, ex commander of the concentration camp Jasenovac, the Council of the Canton Court in Zagreb reached today a decision that he was guilty. Sakic is sentenced to twenty years in prison for crimes committed against civilians during the Second World War. The report from Zagreb was produced by Goran Vezic for OBN.

Belgrade

After yesterday’s car accident in which four associates of Vuk Draskovic were killed, Draskovic said it was an obvious attempt at assassination. As it was expected, only opposition and syndicate reacted to this event. Last night was the thirteenth protest gathering in Serbia, OBN reporter from Belgrade, Danica Ilic, confirmed.

Kosovo

Two associates of British media disappeared in Kosovo. Last time, they were seen was on September 25th on the road from Pristina to Macedonia. Another mass grave was discovered near town grave in Kosovska Mitrovica where 35 bodies were found. The report was produced by the OBN journalist, Gordana Frimel.

Sarajevo

After his visit to Kosovo, the Representative of the US Institute for Peace, William Stuebner, said in an interview for OBN, that the current situation in Kosovo is far away from being stable. The most powerful political figure for the Kosovo Serbs is still Slobodan Milosevic. According to Stuebner, the influence of Ibrahim Rugova on Kosovo Albanians should not be neglected. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Bakir Hadziomerovic.

Mostar

Serb refugees have begun tan organised return to the center of Mostar. More than 500 Serb families have returned to the residential quarters in Mostar to date. OBN reporter from the area, Denis Vila, produced the report.

Sarajevo

A piece on the recent car accident caused by a girl crossing the street on a red light was produced by OBN reporter, Sevko Bajic. A judge determined a fine of 250 DEM but her mother did not have money to pay and spent five days in prison instead of the girl. A piece on the efficiency of the police was presented.

This was followed by a report on the BiH jails. In order to provide treatment of prisoners which is in accordance with international conventions, considerable funds are needed. In most of the BiH jails, the biggest problem is the lack of adequate accommodation. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Danijela Bozic.

World

A report on the continuation of fights in Chechenia was followed by reports on current events in Russia, Indonesia, Austria and Japan.

Sarajevo

Employees of the aircraft company “Orao” had been working until April 1997. At that time, the BiH Federation Ministry of Defence took their production facilities, buildings and land. The employees were left on their own. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Amarildo Gutic.

Banja Luka

A piece on the signing of an agreement on permanent co-operation between the Syndicates of the RS and Montenegro was produced by OBN reporter from the town, Valentina Knezevic.

Sarajevo

An international seminar on the Internet was organised by the Sarajevo University, OBN reporter, Slobodan Maksimovic, confirmed. The last day of the seminar is October 6th.

This was followed by a report on the beginning of the second generation of the “Media Plan”, Bosnian-French School of Journalism in Sarajevo. Twenty two students from both BiH entities will attend the school, OBN reporter, Damir Kaletivic, confirmed.

A piece on the International Day of Children, October 4th, followed. Last week, the International League of Humanists held a conference on abuse and violence against children.
