New High Representative

Heads of the EU appointed the German State Secretary as coordinator of the South East European Stability Pactat the Union Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The Summit of the South East European Stability Pact members has been scheduled for July 30th in Sarajevo. It was also agreed that the next candidate for the new High Representative would be Wolfgang Petritsch, previously Envoy of the EU for Kosovo. OBN journalist and presenter, Bakir Hadziomerovic, produced the report.

Sarajevo

The BiH Presidency held its session today in Sarajevo. The Presidency confirmed that charges raised by BiH against Federal Republic Yugoslavia at the Hague Tribunal in 1993 were not in question. The only controversial matter was the process and appointment of agents at the Hague Tribunal after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

This was followed by a report on the three day visit of the delegation of the Council of Europe Parliament to BiH. The delegation arrived at Sarajevo in order to check whether BiH had fulfilled conditions for entering the Council of Europe. The delegation met with the BiH Parliament political parties’ representatives and ambassadors of the European Council members.

Pale

The Deputy High Representative, Jacques Klein, visited Pale today. He said to the two mayors, Nenad Pandurevic, whose office is in Pale, and Salko Obhodjas, whose office is in Praca, that OHR would do its best in order to provide funds for the construction of a high way and tunnel which would connect two parts of the Pale Municipality.

Delijas (Sarajevo Canton)

A report on the reconstruction of 139 houses in the Delijas village. The funds were provided by the European Union. Today, the end of reconstruction was celebrated.

Kosovo

A report on the tense situation in the Federal Republic Yugoslavia. While Kosovo Albanians return to their homes, Serbs flee Kosovo. In the meantime, the Kosovo Liberation Army established points for handing over their arms. Protests in Serbia where protestors demand dismissal of the Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic.

Croatia

Due to the protest of Croatian farmers, most of the roads and border crossings in the Republic of Croatia are still blocked. The situation in the neighbouring country influence BiH as well. A report on this came from the border crossing Doljani.

Millennium Bug

A piece on currently the top theme in the world – finding a global solution for the Millennium Bug problem. There are some indications that finding a solution would cost $800 million.

Sarajevo

Zlatan Sabic, Dragan Ivanovic and Tarik Zaimovic, along with 35 young assistants and under the lead by professor Zlatko Lagumdzija, prepared a project that would increase computer literacy in BiH. The project was backed up by the Soros Foundation.

Banja Luka

A report on the entrance exam for the Banja Luka Grammar School that were organised after all, although previously it had been decided that the exam would be cancelled. The RS Ministry of Education ordered the School to have the exam.

Sport

A report on the seventh day of the tennis tournament in Wimbledon was followed by a report from the European Championship in basketball and international football.
