High Representative Christian Schmidt met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland and OSCE Chairman-in-Office Ignazio Cassis during his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Their exchange focused on the current political situation, preparations for the upcoming general elections, the introduction of new election technologies, and the crucial role of observation missions in strengthening public trust in the electoral process.

It is essential to safeguard election integrity. Continued support from the OSCE throughout this process remains crucial. In general elections, citizens choose their representatives at all levels of government — and they must be confident that their votes are counted exactly as cast. Their choices must be free, fair, and fully respected,” said High Representative Schmidt.

Furthermore, HR Schmidt and Minister Cassis discussed the precarious financial and structural situation of BiH’s public service broadcaster, BHRT.
In addition to his role as OSCE Chairman-in-Office, discussions reflected Switzerland’s longstanding support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s stability, democratic development, and OHR’s mandate, for which the High Representative expressed his sincere gratitude.
