High Representative Christian Schmidt met with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) high-level international Pre-Election Assessment Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by former Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon.
The discussion focused on preparations for the 2026 General Elections, the importance of safeguarding electoral integrity, and ongoing efforts to strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions. He thanked NDI for their steady commitment to free and fair elections.
HR Schmidt emphasized the importance of implementing election integrity measures and introducing election technologies that enhance transparency and accountability throughout the electoral process. He stressed that voters must be confident that their votes are counted as cast and that credible, transparent, and well-administered elections are essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s democratic future and its progress on the European path.
