The Supervisor of Brcko, Raffi Gregorian, today has issued a Supervisory Order appointing Mr. Goran Lujic as Chief of Police of Brcko District.
Brcko District has not had a Chief of Police for more than five months now. Supervisor Gregorian decided to appoint the Police Chief so that lingering uncertainty over the future management of the Police can be resolved, and the District Police can focus on combating crime and executing its everyday duties.
When the previous Police Chief resigned from the post in August 2006, it was the responsibility of the Independent Board for Selection and Review of the Work of the Chief of Police (“the Board”) to select and propose to the Mayor a candidate for the post.
The Board issued a public vacancy notice for the position of the Police Chief which stated various criteria that any applicant had to meet. Among nineteen applications received, the Board determined that six candidates met the requirements of the vacancy notice and it interviewed and tested five candidates (one did not attend the interview). The Board proposed the first rank candidate as the Police Chief and sent the proposal to the Mayor, who forwarded it to the District Assembly for approval. The candidate did not in fact meet all technical requirements of the vacancy notice, and therefore is formally disqualified from candidacy for the post of Police Chief.
Mr. Goran Lujic is the most qualified of the remaining four candidates for the position of Chief of Police.
Supervisor Gregorian thanks Deputy Chief of Police Fahrudin Selimovic for his service as Acting Police Chief over last five months. The Supervisor calls on the new Chief of Police and the Employment Board as a matter of urgency to select the best candidates for remaining senior positions in the Brcko District Police in order to complete the Police leadership team.
