Sarajevo – Sarajevo Cantonal Police arrested Goran Vasic in Sarajevo suburb Dobrinja early afternoon today, accusing him to have killed Hakija Turajlic, BiH Vice Prime Minister on 8 January 1993. The media received an information that the Serb police arrested Omer Alikadic in Kijevo. On the Lukavica Road, there was shooting on the Federal Police patrol. So called citizens gathering also happened in Lukavica. A UNHCR bus was blocked by around 100 Serbs for some times in the same region. The Serbs are keeping in their custody around 25 persons from this bus not letting them to return to the Federation. Although it cannot be confirmed that these events were directly related to the Vasic’s arrest, the fact is that they followed an Sarajevo Cantonal Police action. New York – A ceremony of hoisting the new BiH flag in front of the UN building in York was attended by Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General. Muhamed Sacirbegovic, BiH Ambassador to BiH addressed journalist on that occasion.

Sarajevo – Incited by the CoM Co-Chair Haris Silajdzic, a meeting of the Parliamentary Parties Presidents was held in Sarajevo. The meeting was attended by the presidents: Selim Beslagic, UBSD; Zlatko Lagumdzija, SDP, Ibrahim Spahic, GDS, Muhamed Filipovic, LBO and Stjepan Kljuic, Republican Party, as well as Mirko Pejanovic, the SCC President. The Group agreed that the implementation process and the political independence of BiH have to be confirmed by functioning of the common BiH institutions and basic laws which will enable at least the minimum of the common principles in the protection of the human rights and freedom of movements of people and goods on the whole BiH territory. Follow further items of the agreement, as well as a suggestion to the HR to call a session of all Parliamentary Parties by February this year in order to agree on the common platform of the implementation of the DPA.

Neven Tomic, CoM Deputy Minister sent a letter to the HR Carlos Westendorp requesting his urgent arbitration on the CoM Law. The delay in accepting this law disables an application of other laws and regulations, reads a letter.

Vienna – Brcko Supervisor Robert Farrand continued today his hearing before the Arbitration in Vienna. Among others, he expressed his opinion that Brcko should stay under the international rule and accused the Serb side for non co-operation in the setting up of the multi-ethnic power in Brcko. Today’s hearing foresees that Mijo Anic the Croatian representative as well as the SFOR, UNHCR and IPTF officials talk to the Arbitrator Owen.

Brcko – Municipal Council of the HDZ Ravne Brcko issued a Statement relating to the Brcko Arbitration Process pointing out the importance of who is representing the Croats at the Arbitral Court in . It was alluding to the Croats working for the Bosniak’s Embassy, since they stay in no connection with the Brcko region.

The Federal Ministry for Refugees and Displaced Persons and the Social Affairs held a meeting with the representatives of the municipalities which are displaced from the RS in the Federation territory, then the deputies of the Coalition for Democratic and Unified BiH, and Social Democratic Party in RS, as well as Associations of the Expelled and Displaced Croats from the RS. The key topic of the meeting was to state an interest and plans of people to return back to RS in order to make a use of the new political climate. They suggested that the whole country be proclaimed open for the returns, instead of open towns. We expect much help in this matter from Amb. Schumacher who is tomorrow coming to visit us, a Prijedor representative told the journalist.

SDP condemns attacks on the HR Carlos Westendorp at the SDA Press Conference yesterday, suggesting the SDA leadership to read in details the Bonn Declaration, especially an Article 4 and Paragraph 6 which deal with the multi-ethnicity in BiH.

Banja Luka – More than a million pieces of mail logged in Sarajevo Post Office longer than two years were delivered to RS in Banja Luka today. HR Principal Deputy Jacueqs Klein attended this event. In only 72 hours since the new Government took over the power in RS, the mail could be delivered, Klein said.
