- Joined the Spanish Foreign Service in 1973.
- Chief of Bilateral Relations in the General Directorate of Cultural
Relations and Chief in charge of the section of publications and cultural
material, during 1974 and 1975.
- Secretary of the Spanish Embassy in Washington, in charge of the relations
with Latin America, from 1976 to 1979.
- Director of South America in the General Directorate of Latin America,
from 1979 to 1982.
- Counselor Minister of the Spanish Embassy in Mexico, from 1982 to
1986.
- Director of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean in the General
management of Latin America, from 1986 to February 1987.
- General Director of Cultural and Scientific relations in the Foreign
Affairs Ministry from 1987 to April 1991.
