The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, on
Thursday issued a Decision amending the BiH Election Law.
Under this Decision, the High Representative has reduced the statutory time
period for notification to be sent by the BiH Election Commission to all
competent authorities, from 170 days to 169 days prior to the holding of an
election. This Decision applies only to the October 2002 Elections.
The High Representative’s Decision ensures that the BiH Election Commission
is able to announce elections for 5 October 2002 in line with the Election
Law.
The High Representative has issued this Decision in the light of the Peace
Implementation Council Steering Board’s clearly expressed wish that BiH
political leaders ensure that the October 2002 elections are held on time, and
the Steering Board’s requirement that the Entity parliaments adopt
constitutional amendments fully in line with the 27 March Mrakovica-Sarajevo
Agreement.
